Peach Perfect

My son insisted that I make cake or he will disown me. ("I will not play with you anymore" is the exact wording of the threat)

Fearing impeachment, I turned to peach.

A brief search on the net revealed a number of recipes. Did a mix and match to suit what was available in the kitchen. As a symbol of rebellion against "from scratch"-ers, decided to use yellow cake mix.

Adding two tablespoons of grits to the batter gave it a whole different texture.. more crunch. Should remember to add it to my next cake.

Lining the cake pan with parchment paper was a good idea... The flower pattern on the bottom was undisturbed in the "flip on to a plate" step.

Here is the short and sweet recipe
* Make yellow cake batter as per the cake mix instructions.
* Add two tablespoons of grits as per the grits pack instructions.(optional)
* Melt two tablespoons of butter(I used tub margarine, but hey, that's just me)
* Core and slice peaches, line the bottom of the cake pan with parchment paper, arrange peach slices on top. Sprinkle brown sugar and drizzle melted butter.
* Pour cake batter.. Bake as per instructions.

Flip onto a plate!

There it is! Brown on the outside, yummy all over! :-D

Hot Bread with hot Chick(en)!

What more could you ask for?:)

Found frozen bread dough in a safeway aisle....mmm..mm..mm. possibilities.... (wasnt that campbell? anyway...a good line is a good line)

Down periscope! Prepare to dive! The pic below is the thawed version all ready to be prepped...

Have you ever tried to stretch bread dough to a rectangle? It could teach you a thing or two about resilience... and about sticking to one's convictions(er.. read hands).. But if you can muster enough courage to point your cooking spray can towards your own hands, and pull the trigger, you can get out of any sticky situation with panache!

All Rise! This is the tough part... waiting for the dough to rise.... a couple of hours should do the trick, but it is not easy when your kid has already started chanting "chikkken bread.....Chikkken bread..."

Here is where the chick gets the dough... or the dough gets the chicken to be precise...

A sprinkling of cheese never hurt anyone... so I threw in a bit of Swiss for luck.

The next step was to cut the "wings" into one inch strips and create a braid.. the knife didnt work well.. Wife came up with a kitchen shears idea.... brilliant! perfect snips to form a cute braid....

More of the same....This one requires real patience and finesse.

Finally... all set to go into the oven... er.. that looks like a mummy than a food item... Well, Halloween is around the corner....

A close up of Tutankhamun's head...

Wow! look at that! There is something about the smell of freshly baked bread.... We had a bread factory in our town in India and every time the bus passed it, there would be a sudden low pressure area around the bus as everyone in it went "whifffff...."

Another shot... will you pout? yes.. look into the camera...

The cross-section. Brown on the outside...yummy on the inside ;)

Next step : Learn to take better pictures.....

The journey of a thousand words starts with a single article.

"The" is mine.
